Located in Sanjo, Niigata and founded in 1919, Yoshikane Hamono (吉金 刃物) is now lead by 4th generation artisan Yoshikane Kazuomi (山本 和臣).
who is also the master of “Nihei Takahiro”, the maker of the Konosuke SLD series. Directly comparing these two awesome products,
the appearance can be said to be almost identical, but the performance of SKD is superior to that of SLD!
The overall grinding and finish are better, and the edge of the blade is also made thinner and sharper!

Information about SKD high speed steel:
SKD high-speed steel, the steel model is SKD-12, the carbon content (C) is about 1%,
but the chromium content (CR) is only 4.5%. According to the general definition of stainless steel,
the chromium content (CR) is about 14-16 % is considered stainless steel,
so SKD is semi-stainless steel (Semi-Stanless).

SKD-12 has properties very similar to high carbon steel and is very easy to sharpen.
Its semi-stainless steel (Semi-Stanless) characteristics mean that it will not rust easily during normal use and can be used for a short period of time.
If left unattended for a long time, it can still rust if it is not cleaned for a long time. Just like high carbon steel,
It will develop a bronze patina in daily use. But compared to high carbon steel, it does not require high maintenance.
