Yukihiro Sakai is a 31-year-old blacksmith from Kumamoto Prefecture. He was a former apprentice of the renowned blacksmith, Nishida-san. His series is crafted from hammer-forged Shirogami #1 laminated in soft iron. These knives are expected to be a joy to sharpen and come out of the box with really thin cutting edges.
“Hinokuni” is the brand name of Yukihiro Sakai, meaning “Land of Fire / Country of Flame,” a nickname for Kumamoto Prefecture due to the famous local volcano, Mt. Aso. Sakai-san presents his products under this brand, showcasing his dedication to traditional forging techniques and materials.
